Machame Route
About This Route
The Machame Route is one of the most popular and scenic routes up Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the 'Whiskey Route' for its challenging nature compared to the 'Coca-Cola Route' (Marangu), it offers incredible views and excellent acclimatization opportunities. The route approaches from the south, beginning with a walk through the rainforest to Machame Camp. The trail then continues up to Shira, over the Lava Tower and Barranco Wall to Barafu Hut, before making the final ascent to Uhuru Peak.
